The Kapatiran-Kaunlaran Foundation Inc. (KKFI), formerly known as the Methodist Social Center (MSC), was founded as a response to the challenge to work among and with the poor in their struggle for genuine human development.

KKFI is an ecumenical, non-profit organization that believes that education is instrumental in helping empower marginalized sectors of Philippine society.

For the past 73 years, the KKFI has been at the forefront of the struggle for social transformation. During the most turbulent period in the recent political history of the Philippines, it provided a venue for discussions of social issues, for planning of social action activities, and as a sanctuary for activists who were violently dispersed during demonstrations, among others.

KKFI’s task, therefore, is to provide ministries that aim to achieve a total human development, including physical, intellectual, social and spiritual growth. Its programs include early childhood care education, Alternative Learning System, child friendly space, student ministry, educational assistance, youth advocacies, training for employment, parent education and community organizing, livelihood skills training, and day center for older persons (Day C).

It continues to strengthen its partnership with different people’s organizations and support institutions. It continues to care for the poor and marginalized through its social services while linking arms with them in the pursuit of our collective goal of building self-reliant and empowered communities where capability-building activities aimed at achieving peace, justice, integrity of creation, and abundant life for all are held.

Since 1950, the people who shared the passion for touching the lives of the poor have continuously nurtured a caring and liberating tradition of service that responds to human needs and aspirations and that effectively contributes to the transformation of society. Throughout the years, KKFI continues to abide by its faith that the “Love of God is always linked with love of neighbor, a passion for justice and renewal in the life of the world.” (p. 47, Our Doctrinal Heritage)

KKFI is affiliated with the United Methodist Church in the Philippines.

It is governed by a Board of Trustees with fifteen (15) members elected from the General Assembly of 30 members.

As a non-government social development organization, KKFI has established partnership with national and international networks. It is one of the founding members of the National Council for Social Development (NCSD), an umbrella organization of non-government agencies engaged in programs for children and families. Likewise, it is an active member of the Philippine Council for Non-Government Organizations Against Drug and Substance Abuse (PHILCADSA).

The foundation is duly registered with the Philippine Securities and Exchange Commission and registered and licensed by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

It is also a member of OIKOSNET, an international network of lay centers involved in lay training on social issues and poverty alleviation.
